“Jerusalem Syndrome: From Neurosis to Psychosis” addresses the phenomenon of Jerusalem Syndrome — a psychiatric condition characterized by the sudden onset of intense religious thoughts and emotions, which may, in some instances, escalate into a psychotic state, defined as a disruption in the perception of reality, during a visit to the city. The book also examines the neurotic dimension of the anxiety associated with Jerusalem — from cultural, religious, and messianic perspectives, suggesting that this experience, to varying degrees, is shared by many.
